Can Ketoconazole And Mupirocin Be Taken For Rashes On The Left Buttock?
I have a rash on my left buttock for a week so I went to urgent care. The Dr was in sure of what it was he said it could be a fungal infection or shingals since it was only on one side. He prescribed me two ointments ketoconazole and mupirocin along with an oral antibiotic. They had to lance one of the rashes to drain fluid. Do you think the percribed medicine is enough? Or if it s shingals do I need to be On antiviral meds
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
A fungal infection is usually itchy whereas shingles is painful. A blistery rash is most likely to be shingles or a bacterial skin infection rather than a fungal infection which is dry, scaly. I suggest you to continue with the oral antibiotics and Mupirocin ointment for a week. If the rash is painful then it is most likely shingles, however, oral antivirals are to be started within the first 48-72 hours after onset of shingles. After this time lapse there is not much benefit of starting an oral antiviral. I would be able to help you further if you can upload a few images of the affected area.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kakkar S.
