Can IUD Cause Mastitis With Fever?

Hi. My daughter has a Mirena IUD and has been breastfeeding for five and a half months very successfully. Ever since the IUD, however, she s been experiencing cramping and hair loss. Now she has what appears to be mastitis, with a fever of 101.5. Could the two be related at all?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I want to tell that IUD is inserted and sterile and don't cause any infection .
Your daughter having infection in the breast because she has been breastfeeding to her baby . Milk is a rich source for bacterial growth . So due to any reason she got bacterial infection which developed infection in the breast and this caused mastitis .
As she is also having fever ( 101.5 ) , so in my opinion consult a primary care physician and get his opinion as physical examination is also important.
Good luck.
Ice massage will provide relief .
