Can I Take Hydroxyzine For Depression?

I have been taking clozapine for years to help me sleep. I take half of a .5 mg not every night but fairly often as I have a great deal of problems sleeping. I also have anxiety. I want to know how long it stays in my system so I can try melatonin or something else. What about hhydroxyzine . Is that a better option?

Hello.Hydroxyzine is sometimes used to induce sleep for its sedative effects but is an antihistamine drug(without effectiveness for anxiety or depression).
If you have anxiety, Lorazepam or Alprazolam are the right drugs to treat insomnia .If you have depression, drugs such as Trazodone or mirtazapine are effective in treating insomnia.

Hydroxyzine is a sedating antihistamine.
It is sometimes used to relieve anxiety and being a sedative it helps one to sleep.
However it is not a medicine used for treating depression.
