Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can I Lead A Healthy Life If I Quit Smoking And Exercise Regularly?
I am 77yrs old and have an ejection factor of 25%. I havew been drinking at least 4 beers daily for about 55yrs. Ive had open heart surgery and 6 stents since 1999. If I stopped drinking and exercised regularly, how long could I expect to live if I had a healthy life style??
A change in life style and dietary modification can make you live long in spite of you having multiple stents. Regular physical exercise open collaterals for heart vessels so that heart is healthy and there are reduced chances of blockage. Avoid fatty diet so that there are fewer chances of atherosclerosis. Keep your blood pressure, blood sugar under control, be physically active, avoid alcohol, stop smoking, avoid stress, have low salt diet and visit cardiologist for regular check-ups.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
