Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi. 6 months ago i went for blood test and medical check up. The results showed TPHA reactive. Then the doctor injected me with 2 immediate injections at both side of my buttocks which was very paifull. For the past 6 months i did not have sex with my wife where we are planning for our 2nd baby. Yesterday I went for my 2nd blood test and medical check up. I asked my doctor whether i can have sex with my wife or not and he said I have to wait for the results. So, my question is, if TPHA still reactive in my 2nd results, can i have sex with my wife? And if my wife conceive, will my baby will be healthy? Thank you.
The further work up will depend on the result of the test - TPHA. If the test still remains reactive, the the antigen (the infectious agent) is still present in the blood. You cannot have sex if the test is still reactive. Sexual intercourse will transmit the infection to your wife and the infection can further transmit to the baby. If the test remains unreactive, you can safely have sex with your wife.
Conception will not be affected by your past infectious status.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
