Can I Drink Water Or Smoke When I Am Undergoing Preoperative Tests?

Having preoperative tests tomorrow like CBC, PT, PTT, platelet count, lipid panel, serum insulin, etc. I have to fast for 12 hrs. prior. These tests are for Microvascular Decompression surgery next month. Am I able to drink water or smoke during those 12 hrs.?

You can drink water, this would not affect any of the tests.

In terms of the smoking, you may want to hold off . Cigarette smoking can increase some of the components of the complete blood count such as the white blood cell count.

You can hold off using cigarettes for at least a few hours before the test.
