Can I ask a doctor to explain my lipid profile test results ?

Hello Doctor, Today I went for my lipid profile test and these are the test results... Requesting you to let me know on my report.. Triglycerides : 179 (Method : GPO- PAP ) Cholesterol : 303 Method :(CHO-POD) IDMS (Traceable) LDL Cholesterol : 219 Method: Calculated HDL Cholesterol : 48 Method : Enzymatic Immunoinhibition VLDL : 36 Method: Calculated Total Cholesterol/HDL Cholesterol Ratio : 6.31 Method: Calculated LDL Cholesterol/HDL Cholesterol Ratio : 4.57 Method: Calculated

Hi. Your lipid profile, suggests that your LDL-C is high, as is the total cholesterol. You definitely need to modify your diet(avoid all fatty/oily/butter/cheese/ghee diet), smoking habits (if any), weight control( if obese) and do adequate exercises/ brisk walk daily to control the same. Such high cholesterol levels can block your vessels supplying your heart and brain and can be disastrous at a later date. So take this seriously, and also a hypolipidemic agent like atorvastatin 20mg daily needs to be taken. With adherence to all these measures, your lipid profile will come back to normal in another 3-6 months. Please repeat the test after 3 months to see for a response to treatment. Thank you.
