Hi, I was diagnosed with hsv2 in march.. My 2 friends and my boyfriend at the time came down with shingles in april which I then had a week later. I think I have just had a hsv re-acurance 3 days ago (not 100 percent sure). And now have shingles in the exact same place.. Are the shingles caused or triggered by hsv2?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Hsv 2 can cause recurrences which can be very frequent specially if it is a newly acquired infection. Shingles Or Herpes Zoster is caused by a different virus i.e VaricellaZoster Virus (Vzv) rather than Herpes Simplex Virus (Hsv 2). The virus that causes Herpes Zoster is the same virus which causes chicken pox. Once acquired, this Virus (Vzv) stays inside the body and can reactivate later to form Zoster lesions. It is uncommon to acquire the virus directly from herpes Zoster patients. The commonest route through which it is acquired is through the respiratory route from chicken pox patients; therefore the latest recurrence that you had is most likely another Hsv recurrence rather than Herpes Zoster.
