Can HIV Cause Impotency?

30 y/o male. I am in week two of a possible exposure. Surprisingly, I started getting signs and symptoms two days after this day. I have developed: diarrhea, acne, chills, low-grade fever, congestion, hot flashes, abd cramps, muscle aches, malaise, fatigue, and headache without pain. Today, day 10, most of the symptoms have subsided. However, the acne on my back is starting to resemble pictures of HIV rash. I have taken an antibody test, but I am certain nothing will come back on that one for awhile. I requested a RX from my doctor for an RNA viral load test. Also, for the first time in my life, I am impotent. I am not on any medication, whatsoever. Can the impotence be from the HIV, or do you think it's stress?

Hello,
Thanks for the consult...

Brief answer,
No relation between impotence and hiv infection

Explanation,
1.You mentions the symptoms which can be grouped under Acute Retroviral Symptoms(ARS) Syndrome which can be present in about 60% of the individuals after unprotected sex.
2. The individuals having ARS syndrome cannot always land into hiv positive. So dont worry about it
3. The hiv infection will reduce the immune system and increase the chance of oppurtunistic infection only when it take time from 6months to 3 years but not on the 10th day of the risk exposure
4. So there is no relation between the impotence and hiv infection
5. On the 21st day of possible exposure to hiv kindly do the laboratory test called
a)RNA Polymerase test
OR
b) PCR test

Hope this information will helps
