Can HCG Shots Produce A False Postive In A Pregnancy Test?
Hello, I recently started the HCG diet where I would give myself a shot of HCG once a day for a 30 day period. I we expecting to start my cycle on 1/12 and did not. I asked the dietician about HCG providing a false positive pregnancy test & she assured me it would not. I started the HCG injections last Saturday and stopped the injections on Thursday 1/14 since I had not started my cycle. I took a pregnancy test on 1/14 and it came back positive. Last night I was experiencing cramping & woke up to heavy bleeding, very similar to my cycle. I took another pregnancy test today & it came back positive. I am unsure what to do.
Of course hCG shots can cause a false-positive on a pregnancy test. A pregnancy test whether through the urine or the blood looks only for hCG to confirm the pregnancy, and if levels reach anywhere above 20, it can result in a positive result. Taking a shot per day (I am unaware of the dosage though), can easily cause a false-positive.
Best wishes.
