Can Guaifenesin Be Taken For Reactive Airway Disease While Having Nash Cirrhosis?

I have Nash cirrhosis. Was diagnosed on sept 10th Had tips procedure on same day. Meld score is 10. I do not take lactulose because I am in one of the lucky ones and have not had any HE. I do take metformin 1000 mgs per day but my a1c was 4.4 on 10/31/17 so Doctor May take me off in January after follow up visit. Now that you have backstory, I have a horrible cough and have been taking proair and asmanex. I also have reactive airways disease. Can I take guaifenesen to get a better phlegm production going?

Hi,

It may increase the sedative effect of alcohol or increase the renal stones. Also, cirrhosis patients are prone to develop rashes all over the body. Please check it out.

If no rash, no sedation or no hypersensitivity is found, you can take this drug, otherwise no contraindication. Please consult your physician/gastroenterologist, he will examine and treat you accordingly.
