Can Grand-PA Powder Be Taken During Pregnancy?

Hello Doctor I have a friend here at work, she is pregnant on her latest 2 months before she give birth. I recently descover her buying grandpa powders like 2 to 3 packets everyday. She swallow them with coca cola drinks, which is not healthy according to me. I would like to know what sight effect her child can get after she has given birth.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Grand-Pa powder is composed of aspirin, paracetamol and caffeine. It is mainly taken for headache as its main ingredients are analgesic medications. It is advisable to avoid medications, unless it needs to be taken after evaluation that it is safe to consume. The ingredients might not have any direct side effect on fetus, but aspirin can cause bleeding tendencies. Also, the caffeine consumption with sugar content is more as it is consumed with carbonated drink. This can cause certain effects on central nervous system and blood glucose levels. It is better to avoid such preparations during pregnancy and lactation.

Hope the information provided helps. All the best.

Regards,
