Can Glyburide Cause Excessive Hunger?

I just started taking Glyburide for diabetes a couple weeks ago being switched from Metformin since that seemed to be damaging my kidney function.....question is does this Glyburide make me want to constantly eat? I have gained about 6-7 pounds already in the short time I started it. You re kidding I have to pay for this advise? Forget it!!!

Yes, it can cause excessive hunger.
Sulfonylureas like Glyburide trigger the release of hormone Insulin from pancreas which helps in increasing the uptake of Glucose by the cells resulting in low blood glucose (hypoglycemia). Which in turn prompts people to overeat in order to avoid lows.That can trigger weight gain.
Weight gain with Sulfonylureas usually occurs in the first year of therapy and levels off thereafter.
Excessive hunger and thus weight gain can be minimized by eating well and
using glucose products, instead of junk food, to counteract hypoglycemia may curb such overeating or excessive hunger.
