Can Gatorade Cause Elevated Liver Enzyme Levels?

My son resently had blood work done. It showed his AST and ALT elevated. He was retested and scored nearly normal. His doctor told him to stop taking supplements,.. vitaFusion multi vites and D3 and she will retest him in 3 months. I am thinking it could have been over use of gatorade. He had been drinking a lot just prior to his first test. Could gatorade have effected these scores?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

High AST and ALT levels could be due to various factors including viral hepatitis, alcohol consumption, bad eating habits (increased intake of high calorie foods); certain meds and supplements including vita Fusion and D3 he is taking.

Gatorade increases chances for hypervitaminosis A, which in turn might cause high liver enzymes as in case of your son.

Check her vitamins level in the blood including D, A to confirm the diagnosis.

It's great he stopped taking all the supplements. Get retested in 6 weeks time after stopping them to see changes.

Wish fast recovery.
