Can Fosamax And Alendronate Usage Cause Fracturing Of The Femur Bone?

I have been taking Fosamax and Alendronate for many years. I have heard that this drug can cause fracturing of the femur bone . I have had this happen to two close friends of mine who are my age in the last six months/ What are the odds of this happening to me.

Hi
Thanks for writing
I Dr. Chugh Orthopaedic surgeon
The drug alendronate (bisphosphonate), which is used to treat osteoporosis, is found to be associated with unexplained aching (warning sign's) in thighbones for weeks and months before the unexplained breaks. This was mainly found in patients using this drug for long period that is more than 5 years.
There are several theories as to how Fosamax causes the bone breaks. Some say the drug causes “frozen bone,” a condition that shuts down the body’s natural process of bone breakdown and regeneration. It makes bones more susceptible to clean fractures. For you prevent any hard physical activity and fall.
Take ibuprofen to reduce pain and to promote bone healing you may take balanced diet rich in calcium (1000mg/day) and vitamin (1000 i.u. /day).
Hope this information suffices.
Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
Regards
