Can Fluconazole Replace Nystatin For Treating Yeast Infections?

This is my second time trying to get your opinion and I don t have any files stored for you, this condition had no name prior to last year, when finally a doctor took a bx and learned it was a yeast infection in my mouth and sinuses, was given the wrong medicine at that time, and it did not work. Now I am on nystatin oral susp 100000 units, only slightly effective, however I just learned that I should be on Fluonazole to get rid of my yeast problems that I have suffered from since 1999, with no help at all until very recently. A friend of mine was on the drug I am asking you about because she also had the same sx when tx her HCV and this cleared her body with 2 30 day doses. Can you help me?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history of yeast infection, my treatment advice is -
1. Maintain good hygiene and do gargles with hot water twice daily.
2. Apply an antifungal mouth paint like candid twice a day.
3. Fluconazole, itraconazole and terbinafine can be used as alternatives to nystatin, but only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
