Can Erythromycin Be Taken Along With Metronidazole For Extreme Pain Post Tooth Extraction?

I have recently had a tooth extraction. I am taking metronidazole, as 5 days after the extraction, I have severe pain just above the extraction site. I also have erythromycin tablets at my disposal. Can I take the two together in order to alleviate my symptoms? i don't know whether it is an infection in the extraction site, or whether my sinuses are infected and it is now the weekend, with no access to a Doctor or a dentist. i would appreciate your help

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that pain above extraction site is due to inflamed or infected tissue present at the extraction site as it is not even 5 days of extraction..

Pain during initial phase of extraction is not abnormal but a very severe or sharp pain needs to be evaluated clinically or by taking x rays at the Dentist's office..

Erythromycin is an antibiotic and it is needed only if there is infection at the extraction site..
But as you are already taking Metronidazole you need painkillers along with ot for relief and not another antibiotics..

So I would suggest you to take painkillers like Ibuprofen for moderate pain bit if pain bsrvere you can take stronger painkillers like Ketorolac or Tramadol..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
