Can Dubagest Be Taken During Pregnancy?

Hi Doctor, I am 31 yrs old and 5 weeks pregnant with my first child. Experienced spotting once during last week. I have been prescribed Duphaston 10 mg OD, Dubagest 200 mg SR BD and Folic acid 5 mg OD. After reading the uses and side effects of Dubagest I am highly skeptical about continuing it. I have taken just 2 doses of it. Kindly advise if I should continue the above medicines or go for a second opinion. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
Dubagest is a progesterone preparation &is essential for fetal growth. &maintenance.
You had bleeding at 4 weeks pregnant... it indicates progesterone deficiency. So to help normal fetal growth & prevent possible abortion.. it has been given to you to take care of your first baby.so... you should continue it till your doctor advices to discontinue.
It may be continued as per need upto completion of 12-14 weeks... whereby the natural suply of progesterone(secreted by placenta) is available to fetus.
Thanks.
