Can Doxycycline Hyclate Be Taken For Bronchitis?

i have had bronchitis for several weeks, was on an antibiotic, was not getting better, in fact, i was getting worse. I returned to the clinic, where they did chest X-rays, gave me two breathing treatments, a shot of rosephin, prescribed benznatate, gave me a steroid pack, and doxycycline hyclate. Is it normal to prescribe the doxycycline hyclate?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Patient,

Prescribing Doxycycline is not a very common choice, but Doxycycline Hyclate is the best choice of some heavy forms of pneumonia caused by some specific bacteria or some specific mycobacteria. In combination with rocephin it works very well.

What I would suggest is to continue to take doxycycline hyclate because it seems to me that after several weeks of being still sick, this combination is the right choice. Also, please, avoid contact with people. You have a weak immune system. Drink many liquids and herbal tea, and eat minimum three meals per day.

All the best,
Dr. Eni
