Can Colcrys Cause Kidney Damage?

I am taking Colcrys 0.6mg because of a gout attack. I have done so in the past taking 1 tablet and another one 1 hour later. It always worked but lately doctors are insisting that Colcrys is bad for the kidneys. I am in chronic stage 3 of kidney failure but have taken this medication with every gout attack; with no problem I am also taking Uloric 40 mg.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, colcyrs (colchicine) can be toxic in some persons. It has a narrow therapeutic window, this means that a slight change in dose can change it from being useful to toxic or associated with a lot of side effects

This is the reason is is not as commonly used.

It is not focused particularly on the kidneys but can affect different organ systems.

I hope this helps
