Can Clarithromycin And Enhancin Be Taken For Conjunctivitis?
Please advice me on my eye! Can I start to take clarithromycin, enhancin (curam) or moxiclav(augmentin) for conjunctivitis that has been going on and off for about 7 days? Today is Sunday. I ve used Naphcon-A eyedrops and I m at the 3rd day that I bought from the pharmacy. Previously I was given Rinz normal saline from the doctor but it doesn t work. Not sure of the cause of conjunctivitis as I just had eyelash extensions done last Monday that might have worsened the it. However it has already started being before that. I cannot remove them now as my beauty therapist who did the extensions are overseas and will be back next week. I will be going to school tomorrow and have to wear contact lenses. Will it be okay?
To treat conjunctivitis compresses with warm water to remove the dried secretions are recommended and if these do not help in 4-5 days then eye drops that contain antibiotics are used. These can be eye drops that contain ciprofloxacin or tobramycin but please make sure they do not contain steroids (it is just an antibiotic eye drop and not combined with a steroid).
If you are not better in 2-3 days of using the eye drops or if you have any eye pain or vision changes, please see your doctor as soon as possible.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
