Can Cardizem Control Heart Rate?

HI Doctor, Can Cardizem over control the heart rate? I feel as if I am on a treadmill...the harder I try to speed up the more I feel controlled . Can the dosage be lessened to provide more impetus into my fitness? Thanks, Barry Goodman. YYYY@YYYY

Cardizem (diltiazem) belongs to a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels and is used for treating heart pain (angina), high blood pressure, and abnormal heart rhythms. This is the drug which should me be monitored by your treating doctor. if you are uncomfortable please inform your doctor and he will change the dosage. Some Side effects of this drug include constipation, nausea, headache, rash, edema (swelling of the legs with fluid), low blood pressure, drowsiness, and dizziness. Liver dysfunction and overgrowth of the gums also may occur. All the best
