Can Betnovate Cream Be Applied For Itching And Puffiness On The Penis?

Our Dr allowed to use the Betnovat cream on my son s penis (on and inside the foreskin). There was some kind of infection (red, puffiness, itchy) after the foreskin operation. On the Betnovat instruction is written that it is not allowed to use it on genitals. But we already did it for 10 days. What could be the consequences of that?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,

Betnovate is from a stronger class of steroids, and the biggest worry about steroid use is skin thinning, which usually only happens with long term use. The reason that it is not advisable to be used on the genitals is because the skin there is already quite thin and sensitive.

Ten days is a short enough duration not to cause any problems, and if he is already healing quite well, you can stop it with no problems.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Teh
