Can Benicoar Be Taken As A Substitute Of Azor?

My medicine plan will not pay for Azor 5/20 anymore....they suggest taing 2 other medications...Benicar and another one..not sure of spelling...alomopdine..something like this. I am told they will do the same thing but I amvery hesitant to change since I have had good results with Azor keeping my blood pressure down. Can you give me some advice. Thanks.

I read your question and I understand your concern.

Azor 5/20 contains two drugs inside 5mg of Amlodipin and 20mg of Olmesartan. Having both drugs in the same pill is of course more comfortable for the patients (who wants to take a bunch of pills).
Their efficacy should be the same though if you get the two drugs separately, as I said it's more a matter of commodity, so if there's a big difference in price between taking Azor and the two drugs separately, I can understand your insurance refusing to pay more for the same combination of drugs.
