Can Augmentin Cause Vaginal Itching And Delayed Menstruation?

I ve been taking Augmentin 875-125 MG for a week tomorrow and I ve noticed a sudden itching that s come on. It s vaginal, but I strongly believe that s it s not a yeast infection. I have absolutely no discharge or burning. No pain when urinating, so I don t think its a bladder infection. I m also 12 days late for my menstruel cycle, with no chance of pregnancy. Any ideas? Can it be a side effect of the antibiotic?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Antibiotics can suppress the normal bacterial flora of body.
Normal resident bacteria is present in the vagina which maintains the pH of the vagina and is required for normal health of vagina.
Antibiotic therapy can suppress this normal resident bacteria and cause shift in vaginal flora.
I suggest you to consult a gynecologist for clinical assessment and a Pap test.
Pap test can pick up a shift in vaginal flora which is technically called 'bacterial vaginosis'.
Treatment of bacterial vaginosis is conservative consisting of a course of anti-microbial for a week.

Thanks and take care
