Can Atorvastatin Cause Cough?

My husband was taken off of ramipril due to a cough. He cannot help coughing even though he has been checked out thoroughly be a lung dr. Now I see that atorvostatin can give that side effect. My husband is an early Alzheimer s patient and now has been coughing for weeks although otherwise fairly healthy. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As far as dry cough is concerned, it may be allergic or drug induced. So what you do is:
• Annually do influenza vaccine
• Antiallergic if a cough persists seasonal changes
• Wear a mask

Although, Atorvastatin is not a cause of cough.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ruby
