Can Atenolol, Lotrel And Diovan Be Taken Along With Welchol?

I have just been told to get a prescription for Welcohl and after reading some of the user reviews I am terrified to stat with this medication. In the past I have taken statins which I had to stop because of leg pain cramping and tiredness. Currently I am taking metaformin 2 times a day and blood pressure meds atenol, Lotrel & diovan, in addition to many supplements such as Vitamin c, d, multi vitamin, lutein, & prevagen. Are any of these meds capable of interacting badly with the Welcohl. Oops, forgot I also have hemmorhoids, is that a problem? I am a 78 year old women, overweight and I do exercise faithfully four times a week for about hour each time. Is there a risk of cramping and fatigue in my legs which I experienced with statins? Also is there a preferred way to take Welcohl each day tog et the most beneficial results?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Welchol belongs to bile-salts sequestrant group. It is not a statin but serves to lower blood cholesterol especially when it comes to bad cholesterol (LDL).

No bad effects if taken with meds you already take. Leg cramps and weakness can be of its side effects, but that is mostly individual.

You start taking this medication. If you might notice anything unusual, should report immediately to your caring doctor and ask to change therapy.

Remember diet and lifestyle regimen is the best treatment strategy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
