Can Astroglide Cause Fetal Death Or Injury?

can astroglide cause fetal death or injury?

I have extreme abdominal pain. I noticed with my last 2 pregnancies this same pain. I lost both those children, one of them at 28 weeks. I am about 4 weeks and was pain free until we used the astroglide and I remembered telling him before that the stuff was a baby killer when it caused severe cramping with my last pregnancy.

Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

Astroglide is a sexual lubricant that mainly contains glycerin and other non-toxic substances. There is no reason that use of a sexual lubricant should cause miscarriage or complicate pregnancy.

However, if you have a history of preterm labor and delivery, sex itself can be risky during pregnancy. Sperm contains a substance called prostaglandins, which causes uterine contractions, and orgasm in the woman also can cause cramping. Furthermore, if you just lost the baby 4 weeks ago, you really should wait six weeks before resuming intercourse as well.

So there is no reason that using Astroglide should have contributed to any pregnancy complications, but it is generally not advisable to be having sex if you have a high risk pregnancy. At the least, you should discuss this with your treating physician before attempting pregnancy again.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
