Can Adderall Cause Voice In The Head?

My son 40 has been on Adderall for some time, and started hearing irritating voices. They put him on Risperidol (sp?) to stop the voices and he gained a belly and increased chest gynecomastia, the voices went away but he didn t like the body changes. (pituitary tumor? could come about) We are seeking advice because of the voices in his head. He never had anything like this before. He is on Pristiq also for depression and adavan for sleep. He seems to use these to check out so he doesn t hear the voices. If he comes off the Adderall will the voices go away. I m not sure he is getting proper care. Any suggestion will be appreciated. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am wondering who is in control of your son’s treatment? Just to mention one of many odd constellations in this case is your son being on Adderall and Ativan at the same time. That’s like braking and pressing the accelerator at the same time when driving a car. The result is chaos. Don’t change the medication yourself, but make sure your son’s diagnosis and treatment will be evaluated by another psychiatrist from scratch. Something has gotten out of control here.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Alexander Davis, General & Family Physician
