Can 500mg Penicillin Taken For Tonsillitis Cause Swollen Gums, Sore Throat, Dizziness And Fatigue?

I have tonsillitis and been on 500mg penicillin for one week now, however my gums have swollen in my mouth, my throat still sore to swallow, I suffer dizziness and slight nausea as well as fatigue. Am I having reactions to the penicillin? Should I stop taking it?

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding tonsillitis, swollen gums, sore throat, dizziness and fatigue. Though you are taking penicillin 500 mg for one week but you didn't got any relief.

As you said that you are taking antibiotic but it is not effective and on the other hand you are having new problems and you are suspecting it as drug reaction. Here I would like to tell you this is not the sensitivity of penicillin. Actually the recmonded dose of penicillin is 500 mg three to four times in a day while you have taken it in a sub clinical dose so question arise for becoming cure.

I will advice you to take the medicine in full dose or consult your doctor to change to other antibiotic as per culture and sensitivity of your throat swab.

Regards.
