Came Off Pravastatin Taking For Diabetes After Severe Pain In Leg. Had Diarrhea, Chest Pains, Chills As Withdrawal Symptoms

Hello, my wife has type two diabetes. In 2008-9 she came off Tricor which was affecting her left quad muscle with severe pain and inability to use it. She had no side effects. Since then, she has been taking Pravastatin. Last week after many months of severe pain in the same leg, but in the calf muscle.,she stopped taking the Pravastatin with immediate relief in that leg and a reduction of pain in her right leg (sciatic pain). Should she have tapered off even though she was only taking one pill per day? Her withdrawal symptoms have included diarhea which we expected, and more recently chest pains, body shaking and chills.(flu symptoms?) She was also taking Januvia. This was prescribed, the doctor thinking that she wasn't caring to maintain her bloodsugar properly as it went to 7.1. It is now 5.9 so the januvia was stopped as it's accelerant effect wasn't needed. So we would like your input on the matter.

Welcome to health care magic.
Pravastatin is a drug which reduces the amount of cholestrol in our body and belongs to a group of drugs called statins. IT HAS nothing to do with respect to blood sugar levels.

SECONDLY,the classic side effect of PRAVAstatin IS MYOPATHY characterised by muscle pain & weakness. You have done the right thing by stopping the medication.

Kindly ,do not stop the medication for diabetes . YOU CAN CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN IF THERE IS A NEED FOR REDUCTION IN THE DOSE OF JANUVIA(sitagliptin).
