Cac Consuming Thyronorm Deal With The Inability To Conceive?
Hi Doc, I have been taking thyronorm since 2 years. Initially it was 25 mcg which has now increased to 50 mcg. I am having a problem with conception. Tests have been done, everything seems alright except thyroid. My doc says that it could be due to the thyroid. What should I do?
Hello and welcome to HCM! Infertility is a common and not much understood problem until now. It is true that to achieve a pregnancy TSH level should be lower than 2.5, if TSH level is higher than 4, even if you are able to concieve it is not recommended because there may be possible malformations of the fetus in the feature. I think your hypothyroidism has an autoimmune origin and it should be confirmed by measuring the titter of the antibodies (AntiTPO and AntiTg), if the titter is high and your TSH is regulated with thyronorm there are studies that shows a positive effect of selenium in lowering the antibodies titter. You may consult this alternative with your doctor. Hope i was useful with this information and i am opened for other questions. Dr.M.Guni
