CT Scan Of Neck Done. What Does The Findings Mean?
I just had a CT scan of the neck with and without contrast that shows "a mild degree of soft tissue fullness in the left piriform sinus region compared with the right as far superiorly as the vallecula. No discrete mass however is seen. There are no glottic abnormalities. Now present are strands of density within the medial aspects of the lung apices and pleural thickening." What does all of this mean?
The 'mild degree of soft tissue' can mean a lot of things. Depending on your clinical status it can range from being an infection to being a cancer. Usually cancers are seen in older age group and they present with hoarseness of voice. If these symptoms are present, I would advise you to undergo a laryngoscopy and biopsy if needed from the lesion. Also, you have written that contrast was given - whether the lesion was enhancing on contrast or not is an important finding which you have not mentioned. If the mass is enhancing then it goes more in favour of a malignancy and you should get treated early as if they are diagnosed early the prognosis is very good.
For the strands in lungs, those are not of any significance and we see them in many patients. Those are just some fibrotic opacities which do not cause any problem.
Do get a check up for the piriform sinus lesion by an ENT specialist who can do a biopsy if needed.
Hope it helps you out.
