CBC Test Shows MCHC Indices Lower Than Normal. Would Marriage End Up With Unhealthy Baby?

Hi Dr. I have taken CBC test and my indices shows that I don t have Thalasemia. My girlfriend took CBC test but her MCH and MCHC indices were a bit lower than normal range, however MCV was in the range. Assuming she has Thalasemia, do you think our marriage would end up with e healthy baby or unhealthy baby (comes with abortion , or baby with Thalasemia major or stillbirth?)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM, I am Dr. Das.
Firstly, who told you that CBC indicates presence of thalassemia?

It is wrong. Whatever is the CBC report, you should do a HPLC test. It will definitely show the scenario.

Secondly, for your general information, apart from thalassemia, there are many abnormal hemoglobin patterns which are also harmful

So, both of you should undergo a HPLC test.

Regards.
