I pushed on it and it feel like a ball like in there, there are little bumps around it also. Red, he said it hurts when he sits the pain radiates down his legs to his knees. Size of a 1/2 dollar coin. Can you help?
The gluteat region is rich in fat and other soft tissues.
This swelling can be arising form the fat or the soft tissue. This type of lesion requires excision/ removal and histopathologicl examination.
It can be a cyst or even an inflammed hair follicle.
As the swelling is red and pains there is increased possibility of inflammaed hair follicle.
Infact any other lesion of this region can cause pain due to associated tension.
Pain radiating to the thigh indicates that there is compression of the nerve caused by the swelling.
you can take an over the counter painkiller for symptomatic relief.
However, a clinical examination is required to know the exact cause.
So, visit the doctor and get the relevant investigations and hence further management.
