Bump On The Head After An Injury. Headaches?Chances Of Fracture And Concussion?
Hello Doctor, My boyfriend yesterday was drunk and hit his head on the side of a ute tray, he dosnt rememeber the details but he has a long cut on the side of his head right near the temple and it has a huge oval like bump underneath the cut. He has been complaining of headachs. Do you think he has a concussion or possibly even a fractured skull? Sober friends say he hit his head very hard.
When it comes to head injury one could never be too sure of the presence of concussion or not especially when they are no focal neurological which can point us towards the gravity of a head trauma. Headache could be as a result of a mild head injury (with the inflammation and cut being responsible for it) while it will also be recommended that headache due to increased intracranial pressure be ruled out with a CT scan or MRI as soon as possible.
Based on your description, we can not tell directly if the concussion is mild and evolving to severity or not. Just advise your boyfriend to go to the ER for a emergency care and book an appointment with a doctor.
I think that he should undergo medical evaluation including a CT scan of the head with bone window which will clarify both your doubts. If the scans are normal, he will benefit with simple analgesics.
