Bump On Forehead Since Birth. CT Scan Shows Bone Spur With Fatty Tissue. Is It Lipoma?

Hi, I have had a bump on my forehead since birth. I'm now 59 years oldl and still have the bump. At birth, the doctors told my mother that it isn't anything to worry about and should go away in a couple weeks. It didn't. At some point later, maybe 35 years later, I was told that to have the bump removed might very well kill me as the bump is part bone that would have to be shaved down and part fatty tissue. It is roughly an inch round. Now with plastic surgery I decided to go to Dr. Ryan Hoffman out of Lackinau Hospital, PA, and he had a CT Scan done. He believes there is a bone spur there with fatty tissue over it and would like to remove it. I will have total anesthesia in the hospital for this, not just local. Is it possible that this truly is a lipoma since there has been 0 change with it since infancy?

Hi,

I can understand you concern for the bump on the forehead.

To diagnose it as lipoma you can go for simple sonography of the area. It will reveal the internal nature nature of swelling - as whether simple fatty tissue or any other hypoechoic nature of swelling or a bony tissue.

A fine needle aspiration will also be assisting in the exact kind of nature of cells in the swelling. As the swelling has not caused any problem in last 59 years so it is not a thing of worry for you.

Take care.
