Bulky Ovary And Irregular, Extremely Painful Periods

i am a lady aged 28. since the very beginning i used to have extremely painful and irregular periods. i used to see a lot of doctors of all types. however nobody could offer a permanent cure although some medicines provided relief till i used them. all the doctors and other people used to tell me that my problems would go after marriage. i am married for an year now. in june 2011, i again did not have any period for two months and decided to see the doctor. the doctor asked me to go for usg and thyroid test. the thyroid test was ok but the usg showed that both the ovaries are mildly bulky. the right ovary measures 3.8 x 2.1 x 2.6 cms with volume of 11 cc and the left ovary measures 3.9 x 1.9 x 2.3 cms with volume of 9 cc. the doctor has advised me to take Glyciphage SR 1 gm (composition- metformin hydrochloride I.P. ). i have been told that this drug is used in cases of diabetic patients. in the light of above, plz elaborate me the following- 1. what does bulky ovaries suggest. 2. how serious it is 3. what can it lead to 4. is there any permanent cure for irregular and painful periods 5. shall i take the medicine suggested by the doctor. how does it help. are there any side effects of this medicine. 6. shall i go for any other test. plz suggest elaborately.
