Bug Bite, Felt Sick, Increasing Diarrhea. Is This Normal ?

hi, my toddler is 2 n 1/2 n has had a bit of bug, started on sunday lunch time with a little bit of sick, and a very small amount of diarrhea . he was ok monday and tuesday morning (eating bland foods and drinking plenty of fluids) but tuesday afternoon he had more diarrhea, quite alot, one nappy at 4, 5, and 6:45 which was basically water. he slept thru the night with no dirty nappies and got up this morning refused food, only had a little water n has slept all morning with no energy to move. when he did move he wobbled and i had to lie him back down. is this normal for a bug?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child is having gastroenteritis.

The main part of the treatment is to maintain hydration of the child.

Give sips of oral rehydration fluids like Pedialyte, coconut water, lemon water to prevent dehydration.

Monitor his hydration status by his activity, urine output, and skin turgor.

Probiotic and zinc can be added to his treatment after consulting the doctor.

Therefore I advise you to consult the Pediatrician for the assessment of the child and for medication advise.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
