Brother Has Lungs Fibrosis And Is On Oxygen. Lung Transplant Recommended. Suggestions?

hi! my brother is a patient of lungs fibrosis since 5 years .now since 6 months he is in hospital n completely on oxygen .doc. recomandation is lungs transplant but he can t breathe him self .can u help me how his treatment is possible . plz reply soon we are so worried for him how can i pay for u, right now i don t have credit card its with my husband n he is not here

If your brother has lung fibrosis and is advised lung transplant , it may be the only definitive therapy.

First decide if you are ready for this surgery. Issues involved are
1 cost of surgery
2 success rate of surgery - depends on your brothers disease , and other body condition
3 availability of experts for surgery- done in very few centres.
4 availability of donor lungs
5 after surgery your brother needs to be on regular drugs ( which are also costly)

Till the time surgery is done , brother may need to be on oxygen ( if the blood level of oxygen is below 90% at rest) .
In case you are at hospital only for the purpose of oxygen , you may consider home oxygen therapy.
You can either arrange for a oxygen cylinder at home ( needs refills like LPG cylinder - costly in long run)
or you can buy an oxygen concentrator ( works on electricity , takes in room air and gives out 40-70 % oxygen - costs 40000 INR and above - or take on monthly rental of ~INR 3500 )

Hi Dear Concerned Sister,

I understand your problem . Why dont you ask your doctor if you can keep oxygen concentrator at home . Ask the doctor what options are there and let me know your brothers age too.
