Broken ribs, strained muscles in the abdomen. Pain while coughing. What is the treatment?

My husband hurt his back last & he was told that he had broken a few ribs & strained the muscle across his tummy At emerg only tylenol was prescribed ,it's been 9days and he does not feel any be
tter . He has to cough often & that really hurts badly , any suggestions

He should take tramadol 50 mg twice daily, and corex cough syrup to suppress pain and cough respectively. In ER they should conduct X rays and if ribs fractured then strapping of ribs must be undertaken by orthopedic specialist. At all cost he must avoid coughing and for which cough linctus is necessary as ribs move on cough and hurt more
