Nephrologist 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for the query.

A single healthy kidney is often capable of doing the work of 2 kidneys and the patient is often able to lead a healthy life.
However we need to do the following tests to be sure that the kidney function is OK: Blood urea and creatinine levels, Urine R&M and USG of the abdomen.
We also have to take the following precautions to preserve the kidney function:
1) Treat all infections aggressively
2) Avoid medications like brufen which are harmful to the kidneys (see your doctor for a complete list)
3) Check blood pressure once a year

Hope this helps
Good luck.
