Bone And Muscles Hurt. Having 5 Stents In Heart. Taking Lipitor. Help?

I am a 74 yr. old female. Every bone and/or muscle hurts in my body. It rarely ever lets up the pain is sometime unbearable. Legs are a real problem, can hardly walk, had 5 stents in heart replaced six years ago, everything seems to be falling apart. I have had many tests but nothing really shows up (thank God for that). I am taking 8 different medications, one being Lipitor. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

All your muscle related pains can be attributed to LIPITOR usage as the most severe adverse effects of statin usage is myotoxicity in the form of myopathy, myalgias or myolysis. The exact cause of statin induced myalgias is not clearly known till date.

It has been shown that daily supplements of Coenzyme Q10 or Ubiquinone lowers the incidence of muscle pains in patients taking statins.

The only effective way of controlling the muscle pains in by lowering the dose of Lipitor after consulting your treating doctor.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
