Bloodshot eyes, redness from the inner corner towards the iris like a blotch. Treatment required?

my eye has been red or bloodshot for about 5 or 6 days. It doesn t hurt in any way at all. If not for a mirror, I wouldn t he able to tell there is any issue. It s red on the inside corner of my right eye extending from the very inside of eye to about the iris. It s like a red blotch with the some distinctly red vessels shooting off from it. Just wondering if I need to be worried or see a doctor?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
The condition you are describing is called as Episcleritis. By and large this condition is benign and vey rarely can be associated with systemic disease. It will resolve on its own in 2-3 weeks or if you want a faster recovery you can use NSAID drops (e.g. eye drop Flur 3 times a day for 2 weeks). If it recurrs in future then you need to get some investigations done. if not then not to worry. I hope this will solve your problem.
Wish you a good health

Hi Andrew,
Bloodshot eyes without any blurring of vision/ eye discharge may be due to subconjunctival hemorrhage / pingeculitis/ inflamed pterygium.
And in your case since it is more localized with dilated vessels from it, mostly probably it is either pingeculitis or an inflammed pterygium .

You need not worry in either of these conditions,as it is a localized inflammation of the conjunctival tissue due to allergy/excess heat exposure. Since it is there for more than a week, confirm it with an ophthalmologist after which you may be started on an anti inflammatory eyedrops or a mild steroid for a faster recovery.

Any redness more than a week ,should not be ignored and must be examined at the earliest.
Keep us updated after your checkup. Take care :).

Hii there

It might be just a subconjuctival hemorrage that had cropped up. this means little bleeding inbetween the layers of the eye.

2 thing i would like to know -

1. do you bleed more than normal when u have any small cut, say while shaving or doing things like that

2. are you a BP patient

if both the things are not there, then generally no need to worry. this will go away on its own in a week or three (depends). do not use any eye drops. It may worsen a little before it completely goes away. also it may change color from red to green to yellow.

take 2-3 glasses of lemonade(fresh). may help in faster recovery.

hope this helps and u r eyes become shining again
