Blood in stools, delayed periods, flatus, stress, mild panic attacks. Any insights?

Hello, I d like to enquire about some symptoms that I have been experiencing which may or may not be related: 1) Blood in stool 2) Passing gas 3) Late period 4) Stress (for the past two months or so) and mild panic attacks (where I feel faint, as well as feel my heart rate rapidly accelerate and find it very difficult to calm down). I realize this is a psychological factor and am aware it can affect my period. I have also been sexually active but have not practiced actual intercourse. Can you provide me with some insight?

Hi ! Good afternoon and a Happy New Year 2014. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

You are right in saying that your symptoms might not be related, as blood in stool is completely a different symptom which could be due hemorrhoids, or a polyp which could be diagnosed by a colonoscopy. Passing gas if too frequent might be a symptom of any kind of food allergy/poisoning/intestinal infection, if you eat frequently from outside and you have to take antibiotics for this on consultation with your doctor. Late period could be due to the stress factor which you have to try to overcome either by yourself or by consulting a psychlogist/psychiatrist. May be your stress is related to the sexual activity of yours without having practiced actual intercourse.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in planning your treatment. Thanks for using the health care magic forum for your query on health. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
