Being A Diabetic, What Could Elevated AST And ALT Levels Suggest?
I am 50, 6'2" and my AST is 100 (Dr sheet lists normal 10-59) and ALT is 126 (10-70 being normal). I am type 2 diabetic and he has scheduled a liver scan. All other test results (bilirubin 0.8; albumin 3.8 fall within normal range. He told me not to worry, as it isn't anything serious. Am I worrying too much?
Increased ALT indicates liver injury. It is important to know lipid profile and viral markers.Ultrasound of abdomen should also be done. Increased AST is non specific and it may be due to many reasons. You should take tablet Ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg twice daily for three months. It will help in regeneration of liver cells. You should avoid red meat and high fat milk products. You should avoid alcohol completely if you take it. You should increase your physical activity in the form of exercise.
