Been Advised Surgery For Sore Peroneal Muscles. Is There An Alternative Treatment For This?

Hello all there! I am having continuous mild dull ache and lil swelling on my left ankle since 2008. I ignored it as it is not stopping me from my routine but now I wanna do something about it. There is tenderness just behind malleolus. I checked, it is peroneal tendon (longus or brevis) problem, may be tear as my whole peroneal muscle is sore. Surgery is advised. Is there any alternative to avoid surgery as I wont be able to take rest for weeks which is desired after surgery. Ayurvedic or physiotherapy will be better.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us,

I have studied your case with diligence.

Rarely peroneal ligament injury need surgery.
If there is full thickness tear then surgery can be done

If required you may need MRI ankle for soft tissue involvement.
Till time you can use supportive splint or brace.
Physiotherapy may help.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
