Back Injury, Breathlessness, Coughing Blood, Blood Sensation Behind Throat. Emergency Condition?

My son jumped 5-10 meters from a diving board and fell into the water on his back. He was breathless for a short while and immediately started coughing blood . This subsided but he has now gone to sleep (10 hours later) with the feeling of blood in the back of his throat . Should I be seeking immediate medical attention? Cheers, Bec

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

With back trauma there is always a risk of rib break and pneumothorax. Depending of the amount of air inside the chest, it can cause breathing problems and may be life threatening. That is why it is advisable to have this condition ruled out. You should take your son to ER and have at least chest X-ray.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
