Baby Having Bad Smelling Of Stools. Switched To Soya Milk, No Help. Solution?

Hello Doctor, I have a baby boy who is 16 months old. For more than a month, his stool smells very badly. Even after giving medicine still the smell doesn t go away and it smells diiferently now than before. He had lactose intolerance and for past 10 days I switched to Soya milk from Cow s milk after doctor advice. But his stool started smelling before this happened. May I know the reason behind this and the treatment. Thanks.

Hello Good Evening Dear,
Foul smelling stool depends upon many causes such as-
Poor Diet intake and digestion.
Eating fried, greasy foods, processed foods, refined sugar
Undigested fat can also lead to a change in odor.
Intake of some antibiotic.
It may also be due to an overgrowth of bacteria – bacteria produces hydrogren sulfide
If there are some associated symptom along with foul smelling it may be due to-
Amoebiasis
Giardiasis
Cystic fibrosis
Steatorrhoea
Gastroenteritis
Crohn's disease
In addition, tests such as a stool sample, colonoscopy and endorectal ultrasound may also be performed.

Herbs such as Galium aperine (also known as Cleavers) and Milk Thistle are excellent cleansing tonics and support the healthy functioning of the liver also useful in case of foul smelling.
Drink more water.
With Best Wishes
