Baby Fell, Blood On Nose, Nostrils Were Pink. Cleaned Blood, Bleeding Stopped. Should I Be Concerned?

My 16 month old was running to the kitchen where I was. She fell and hit her face on the hardwood floor. When I picked her she had a tiny bit of blood on her nose as if it was pricked by a needle. She was crying for about a minute and when I went to wipe her nose, the inside of both nostrils were a little pink. I cleaned each one twice and there is no more bleeding and she appears to be her regular self. Should I be further concerned?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi there,

Thank you for choosing HCM for your query.

As you mentioned, that your 16 month old fell on the kitchen floor and hit her face and had some injury to her nose where she bled a little which has stopped and she has been acting fine.

If she didnot have significant injury to the head and after her fall has acted fine except the slight bleeding that she had on her nose and is not bleeding anymore then she should do fine.

Keep in mind if there were any sharp objects like a broken glass or a knife or wood chip, on the kitchen floor that she might have hit, she may continue to bleed. Please look over her carefully to make sure you didnot miss any.

Otherwise you can monitor her for any more bleeding episodes through her nose, if she is excessively fussy or cranky, if she is not acting her normal self, or is vomiting, then donot wait and take her to her pediatrician to be examined.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Sumeet.
